This computer and technology class as helped me recognize that I really like technology! ☺ The issue for me is I haven't taken the time to learn enough to make it fun!! The technological world is so huge it can be overwhelming and my life is so full it hasn't been a priority for me. I could write a mean paper or send an adequate email, but spreadsheets and presentations have been delegated to others who could do it more creatively and faster than I could. BUT NOT ANYMORE! I HAVE NEW SKILLS!!!!!
I'm excited to have new resources like great free photography and clip art to add to my creations. The endless possibilities of web 2.0 will make me a guru of fantastic finds! I use bookmarks all the time now and while I couldn't understand the value of a screen shot, I have also found a use for that twice since we learned how to do it!
I find I don't get as frustrated as I used to and although it took me two tries on the quiz, I got nineteen out of twenty correct without having to call my son!!! After I looked up the technological term for MOV I found it is called an extension, which leads me to my remaining frustration: Terminology!! I still struggle with what is called what and why. Making a little progress, but I have a ways to go. Perhaps by the middle of March I will get that too!!
The other thing that causes a little glitch for me is I have a Mac and people who have Macs believe they are the best computers ever! Unfortunately the assignments thus far have not been Mac friendly unless you have Microsoft for Mac. Thankfully to wonderful Amy from Seal Rock, I will be installing that software this week!!! Hooray!
I wouldn't go so far as saying I'm computer savvy, but I'm not wanting to stomp on something anymore! Progress is a wonderful thing and I'm confident that acquiring new computer skills will provide the confidence I need to be a successful student and better professional. Sort of like being on Worst Cook in America, huh? Will I learn to cook up a mean website at the end of this term?????
I like your enthusiasm for this class. It motivates me to keep trying through my frustrations. I learn to use a computer in 1987,specifically with airlines software systems. However, when I went back to school, I had to write papers and present for classes . I was very lost. Now, I am very excited about learning current Computer applications. Its like learning a new language!
ReplyDeleteHi Joan! I found myself smiling when I read your comments about computers. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and makes me feel excited about learning! I can relate to the struggle with terminology I often still get stuck with trying to remember what is what. But your right, the other applications and things we are doing in class are a lot of fun! Especially the web 2.0. I found it was a bit overwhelming at first because of the endless pages of things to choose from. After a bit I found some really cool things and was glad to know about them. I told my husband that I finally know about something on the computer that he doesn't!
